Bariatric Surgery Albuquerque
Lovelace Westside Hospital offers the following bariatric services:
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y (Gastric Bypass)
A type of weight-loss surgery that reduces the size of your stomach to a small pouch, about the size of an egg. It does this by stapling off a section, reducing the amount of food you can take in during meals. The surgeon then attaches this pouch directly to the small intestine, bypassing most of the rest of the stomach and the upper part of the small intestine. This reduces the amount of fat and calories you absorb from the foods you are able to eat for even more weight loss.
- Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy
This surgical procedure reduces the stomach by 25% of it original size, by surgically removing a large portion of the stomach. The open edges are then attached together with staples to form a sleeve or tube with a banana shape. This procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach. The procedure is performed laparoscopically and is not reversible.
Laparoscopic Adjustable Banding (LAP-BAND®)
Without any stomach cutting or stapling, the LAP-BAND® System reduces your stomach's capacity, restricting the amount of food you are able to eat at one time. Plus, you feel full faster and stay full longer, so you wind up eating less. This helps you gradually lose weight and keep it off. So you can live a healthier life - for your children, your family and yourself.
An adjustment is an in-office procedure where your provider alters the amount of fluid in your band, making it tighter or looser. This allows you to customize the LAP-BAND® System to meet your own needs. Just as you listen to your body, it's important for you to listen to your LAP-BAND® and work with your doctor to find the right fit, or degree of tightness, that allows you to feel full and comfortable. This will ensure you lose weight at a healthy, gradual pace.
